The theme of our 2012 Flower Festival rather suggested itself; ‘Jubilee – Something to Celebrate!’

The theme couldn’t be anything else, could it! We couldn’t let Her Majesty’s Diamond Jubilee pass without marking it in some way. The Queen’s Christian faith is evident and she is, under God, ‘Defender of the Faith’ and Supreme Governor of the Church of England. Her Coronation was an act of Christian worship during which she was anointed and presented with a bible, ‘… the most valuable thing that this world affords.’

At its heart Jubilee is about celebration and is a biblical concept. Leviticus 25 instructed ancient Israel to mark every fiftieth year as a Jubilee year during which slaves and captives were freed and the land left fallow. The Jubilee was a yearlong public holiday; a time of celebration, restorative justice and freedom.

And this points to a deeper truth. Jesus tells us that if we follow him we will be truly free (John 8:31-36); free from the burden of our past and free from concern about our place in eternity.

So Jubilee really is something to celebrate!

Our 2009 Flower Festival had the theme 'Praise God from whom all blessings flow - a celebration of church and community.' A few photos can be found here.
